Getting around IAD
One Main Terminal plus midfield concourses served by the AeroTrain, whose Terminal station sits just past the TSA checkpoints. Most arriving international passengers do not ride the AeroTrain because they must clear U.S. Customs first. The Metrorail Silver Line connects to the Main Terminal by an indoor pedestrian tunnel with moving sidewalks that also links Parking Garage 1.
Where hotel shuttles pick up at IAD
Hotel courtesy shuttles pick up and drop off at positions 2A and 2H on the Commercial Ground Transportation Level of the Main Terminal — from Baggage Claim, exit DOWN the ramp at Door 2, 4 or 6 to reach that lower curb. Shared vans use the same 2A/2H curb; rental-car buses use 2C and 2F. IAD's own free 'ECONOMY' and 'GARAGES' shuttles run 24/7 from Curb 2F.
This is the detail most travelers get wrong. Confirm the pickup point with your hotel when you book — shuttle stops move during construction, and at several airports they are not at the arrivals curb at all.
Worth knowing at IAD: IAD valet has an 'Express Exit': text your valet ticket number to (703) 214-4455 when you land and the car is waiting at the Valet Service Center, staffed 24 hours — though curbside drop-off is only 4:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m.
